Luc Abalo: 'We love these matches'

Paris Saint-Germain Handball return to Velux EHF Champions League action away to Kiel on Sunday - a match we spoke about with Rouge et Bleu right-winger Luc Abalo.

Psghand.fr: On Sunday you get your Velux EHF Champions League campaign under way with a big test in Kiel. Will it be a good opportunity to see where you are at?
Luc Abalo: We're not going there to see how we’re doing. We're going there to win. After the match we can take stock. We know that we have a good team, just as they do. Either team can win this match. So we will work hard to analyse their weaknesses and exploit them as much as possible.

Could this be a decisive match in the group stage?
Yes! Even though it's the first match of the group stage, if you win these early ones, you make things easier for yourselves when it comes to booking a place in the Final4. So yes, it's very important to win them.

Other than Kiel, you will be up against a number of teams you played last season (Veszprém, Flensburg). Is that an advantage?
Not really… in team sports, you always come up against the same teams. If you're one of the bigger sides, you always end up taking on the same people. It can vary from one season to the next as a function of recruitment, but it's always top level.

What do you make of your group?
Just like last season: really tough. We can't really make any predictions. In sport, it's always complicated. We saw how that worked last season. What's for sure is that we have to take all our opponents extremely seriously.
