Group B results: Round 11

The Velux EHF Champions League swung back into action this week, with Paris Saint-Germain confirming their status as Group B leaders thanks to a 26-31 win away to Celje on Sunday afternoon. The rest of the Group B results…

Flensburg – Kielce: 32-32
The Rouge and Bleu's lead atop the Group B standings stretched out by a point as second-placed Flensburg were held to a 32-32 draw with Kielce on Sunday night.  The Polish side have blown hot and cold this season, but things were looking good for a shock away win when they had Flensburg on the back foot (43’: 23-29). However, Rasmus Lauge Schmidt proved too much, with a nine-goal haul. The Danish international even had his side in front in the dying seconds, but Blaz Janc spoiled their party by equalising with the last attack of the game (32-32).

*Meshkov Brest – Aalborg: 23-23
Meshkov Brest and Aalborg got Round 11 going in mid-week, the two strugglers playing out a spirited draw (23-23). Both sides fought to the bitter end in this balanced match where the biggest lead was Brest's early in the piece (15’: 8-5), before the Danes evened things back up (25’: 9-9). Despite sitting in sixth and seventh respectively, Meshkov Brest and Aalobrg still have a chance to qualify for the round of 16.

Kiel – Veszprém: 22-20
After a two-month break, Kiel and Veszprém returned to European action in a blockbuster on Wednesday night. In order to stay in with a chance to topping the group, the Hungarian side needed to claim victory at the Sparkassen Arena - but Andreas Wolff had other ideas. The German 'keeper saved 6 from 11 (55%) to spur his side to victory, with Niclas Ekberg (7 from 11) taking charge at the other end (22-20). The win takes the Zebras level with their opponents on the night.
