Celtic were the most dangerous from the off and opened the scoring through Hendry's penalty (1-0, 13'). Paris responded in the form of Weah's overhead kick that flashed just wide (22') before the visiting goalkeeper had to keep out Hill's free-kick (28').

François Rodrigues' men took charge on the half-hour mark. After a run down the left, Weah found Guclu, who nearly backheeled the ball past Mullen (37'). Instead, he did that with his head, nodding in the equaliser with the help of a post after connecting with Georgen's cross (1-1, 38'). The number 9 then very nearly put his team ahead from a Diaby corner (43').
