A look back at the Copa Rio 2017

On 25 May, the Paris Saint-Germain Academy Brazil took part in the COPA RIO 2017, a seven-a-side football tournament that brought together more than 300 children from eight different teams.

This tournament, with its particular seven-a-side format, pitted over 300 kids from eight Rio-region football schools against each other over the four weekends between 22 April and 20 May. During this month of competition, the kids were divided into three age categories (U9, U10 and U11) to do battle on the pitches at the Pontal Country Club in the Rio neighbourhood of Vargem Grande. On the final weekend of competition, all the teams had their hearts set on strong performances to end the long and hard-fought tournament on a high.

Once the dust had settled, the signs were very good for Paris Saint-Germain Academy Brazil. The U13 team claimed fourth place while the U9s took third in their category, but it was the U11s who shone the brightest, brilliantly taking the title in their bracket.

The U11 team managed to get through the entire tournament undefeated while their players snaffled up the individual honours of top scorer, best player and nest 'keeper in the competition. They also boasted the best defence, conceding the fewest goals of any side in the entire competition, proof that the talented individuals complement each other marvellously in the Paris Saint-Germain Academy Brazil U11 squad.
